Surf Air is a flat rate airline operating out of California . To become a member of this airline, an admission fee of USD 1000 is required. The monthly membership fee as of July 2016 is 2000 USD. With a membership it is possible to fly to all of the offered destinations without restriction.

history

The company was founded by David Eyerly, Wade Eyerly, Peter Bi, Scott Porter, Cory Cozzens and Reed Farnsworth in 2013. In the same year the airline, which was not yet active at the time, received USD 9 million from various investors and USD 500,000 from VegasTechFund, Velos Partners, and Base Ventures. In August 2014, Surf Air secured a five-year delivery for 15 new Pilatus PC-12s valued at USD 65 million, as well as an option for up to 50 additional aircraft within the next five years. Three aircraft were still delivered in 2014, with which flight operations then began.

In 2015, 9 more aircraft are to join the fleet.

In February 2015, Wade Eyerly resigned as managing director and the former managing director of Frontier Airlines joined the airline as its new boss. At that time, the airline already had over 430 members. According to the American magazine Barrons's , the flat-rate airline should already have over 100 people on the waiting list by this time.

In 2016 the company expanded to Europe. The admission fee in Europe was 1,300 euros and a monthly membership fee of 3,250 euros. However, due to insufficient demand and insolvency of the London-based Surf Air Europe, its business operations were discontinued at the end of November 2018 and liquidation was initiated. The company stated that it intends to concentrate solely on the US market in the future.

Destinations

As of July 2016, the company offered its 3000 members 85 daily flights to twelve destinations on the west coast of the United States . In cooperation with TAG Aviation , flat-rate flights were planned in Europe between London , Zurich , Geneva and Cannes , and further destinations in Europe should be offered in 2017.
