Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Inc. (ASA) was an American regional airline based in Atlanta . She was wholly owned by SkyWest, Inc. and flew exclusively for Delta Airlines in the livery of Delta Connection .

history

Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, was founded on March 12, 1979. Flight operations began on June 27, 1979 with a Twin Otter from Atlanta to Columbus. In 1981, ASA received their first Embraer EMB 110 Bandeirante , followed by a de Havilland Canada DHC-7 . In 1982 Atlantic Southeast Airlines, Inc. went public.

In 1983, Atlantic Southeast Airlines bought Southeastern Airlines and in 1984 ASA became one of Delta Connection's first regional flight partners. In 1984 it became the first customer to order the Embraer EMB 120 . In 1985 the first machine was floated in. On May 23, 1986, Delta Airlines acquired 20% of the Atlantic Southeast Airlines block of shares.

In 1993 the first ATR 72-210 was launched . The jet age began for Atlantic Southeast Airlines on December 1, 1995 with the use of the first BAe 146 . The first Bombardier CRJ followed in 1997 .

On March 22, 1999, Delta Airlines took over 100% of Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Together with Delta Connection partner Comair , Atlantic Southeast Airlines placed the largest ever order from Bombardier for 396 aircraft . In 2002, Atlantic Southeast Airlines received the first CRJ700 for Delta Connection. All machines already received were CRJ200.

On August 15, 2005, Delta Airlines offered Atlantic Southeast Airlines SkyWest, Inc. for purchase. The takeover was completed on September 8, 2005 and a new codeshare agreement for ASA was concluded at the same time .

On January 1, 2012, Atlantic Southeast Airlines merged with ExpressJet Airlines under their name and ceased operations.
