University of Illinois Willard Airport is an airport of the University of Illinois with four runways.

It is located in Tolono Township, south of the parish line of Savoy, Illinois , a suburb of Champaign, Illinois . The airport serves Champaign, Urbana, Illinois , the university and the surrounding area in east-central Illinois .

Visitors from all over the world fly to Champaign-Urbana to work with researchers at the university or to do business with companies located around the university. However, many airlines prefer to serve central Illinois through the airport at Bloomington - Normal . Also, since Willard Airport does not host federal immigration and customs control agencies, it is not possible to offer international flights. The higher prices that airlines charge to fly to a regional airport compared to an international hub like Chicago also help reduce traffic.

Willard Airport was home to the University of Illinois Institute of Aviation , which was a major research facility at the university. This made Willard one of the few research airports owned by a university. The air traffic institute is ranked one of the top ten in the nation and has won numerous prestigious awards.
