The Southern Illinois Airport ( IATA : MDH , ICAO : KMDH ) is an airport located in Jackson County in the south of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . It is located 8 km northwest of Carbondale and 8.3 km east of Murphysboro , the administrative seat of Jackson County. The airport is owned by the Southern Illinois Airport Authority , a joint venture between the cities of Carbondale and Murphysboro and Jackson County. The airport is used for general aviation in southern Illinois.
