The United States Department of Transportation ( english United States Department of Transportation , DOT short or USDOT) is a ministry within the Federal Government of the United States , which for the vehicle traffic is responsible. It was created by Federal Public Law 89-670 (HR 15963) on October 15, 1966 and began operating on April 1, 1967. It is headed by the United States Secretary of Transportation . DOT is headquartered in Washington, DC (400 7th Street, SW) .
