James H. Burnley

James Horace Burnley (* the 30th July 1948 in High Point , North Carolina ) is an American businessman and former politician ( Republican Party ), of the Cabinet of President Ronald Reagan , the Office of the Minister of Transport held.

Burnley studied at Yale University , where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in 1970 . In 1973 he received his Juris Doctor from Harvard University . Between 1973 and 1981 he worked as a lawyer for two law firms in Greensboro . He then worked from 1981 to 1982 as director of the charity Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA).

In 1982 he joined the Reagan administration and became Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General . The following year Burnley moved to the Department of Transportation: first as Head of Legal, then until 1987 first as Deputy Minister before he succeeded Minister Elizabeth Dole . With the end of Ronald Reagan's presidency in January 1989, Burnley also left the government.

In the run-up to the 1996 presidential election , James Burnley acted as a campaign advisor to Bob Dole , who was defeated by Democratic incumbent Bill Clinton . Later he was a member of the Board of Directors of Infrasoft , before taking up a position as a lobbyist for the aircraft industry in 2001.
