The Oneworld Alliance ( proper spelling oneworld Alliance ) is a global aviation alliance that was founded on February 1st, 1999. The founding members were American Airlines , British Airways , Canadian Airlines International , Cathay Pacific and Qantas Airways .

The alliance consists of 13 airlines , which serve a total of more than 1,000 destinations in 158 countries . The fleets consist of 3,400 machines that transport over 500 million passengers a year (as of 2017). Since 2003, the Oneworld Alliance has been voted the world's leading airline alliance at the World Travel Awards for the 14th time in a row since 2003 .

cooperation

The member companies cooperate with each other through code sharing and interlining . In addition, the respective status of the frequent flyer programs are mutually recognized. To this end, three alliance-wide status levels have been defined, Ruby , Sapphire and Emerald .

Members

The alliance consists of the members and so-called "Affiliated Societies". These are partner airlines of the respective members.

No further accessions had previously been finalized since Royal Air Maroc joined on April 1, 2020. As of 2016, Aer Lingus had plans to become a member of Oneworld again after the takeover by IAG .

China Southern Airlines is traded as a possible member, whereby (as of February 2019) a cooperation as a oneworld connect partner seems more likely.
