The James M. Cox Dayton International Airport (short: Dayton International Airport) is an international airport 14 km north of Dayton in the village of Vandalia in the state of Ohio in the United States .
history
The airport was founded as Dayton Airport Inc. in March 1928 by local entrepreneurs . The company bought around 126 hectares in the village of Vandalia. In 1936 the airport was sold to the City of Dayton, with the support of politician James M. Cox , and renamed Dayton Municipal Airport . The next renaming took place in 1944 in Dayton Army Airfield and in 1952 in James M. Cox-Dayton Municipal Airport . Its current name was determined in 1975 as James M. Cox Dayton International Airport .
Today the airport is the third busiest in Ohio after Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Port Columbus International Airport . Every year the Vectren Dayton Air Show takes place at the airport .
