David R. Nagle

David Ray Nagle (born April 15, 1943 in Grinnell , Iowa ) is a former American politician . Between 1987 and 1993 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Nagle studied at the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls between 1961 and 1965 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his admission to the bar in 1968, he began to practice in his new profession. In 1969 and 1970 he served as the assistant district attorney in Black Hawk County . He then represented the interests of the city of Evansdale from 1972 to 1973 as a lawyer . From 1978 to 1981 he also taught law at the University of Northern Iowa.

Politically, Nagle became a member of the Democratic Party . In the 1986 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Iowa . There he succeeded T. Cooper Evans of the Republican Party on January 3, 1987 . Nagle was the first Democrat to represent the Third District of Iowa since Albert C. Willford , who served between 1933 and 1935. After two re-elections, he was able to complete three consecutive terms in Congress until January 3, 1993 . During this time the Second Gulf War fell . In addition, the 27th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in 1992 , reforming the system of diet increases in Congress.

In 1992 Nagle was defeated by Republican Jim Nussle when trying to re-elect . In 1994 and 2002 he applied unsuccessfully to return to the House of Representatives. Today he works as a lawyer in Cedar Springs.
