Charles A. Kennedy

Charles Augustus Kennedy (born March 24, 1869 in Montrose , Lee County , Iowa , † January 10, 1951 ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1921 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After elementary school, Kennedy worked in horticulture and garden architecture. He became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1890 and 1895 he was mayor of his home parish of Montrose; from 1903 to 1905 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Iowa .

In the congressional elections of 1906, Kennedy was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Iowa , where he succeeded Thomas Hedge on March 4, 1907 . After six re-elections, he was able to complete seven consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1921 . During this time, the First World War and the passage of several amendments to the United States Constitution , which, among other things, changed tax law and regulated the direct election of US Senators by law. Kennedy was Chairman of the Committee on Mileage between 1907 and 1911, and served on the Committee on Rivers and Harbors from 1919 to 1921 .

In 1920 Charles Kennedy renounced another candidacy. In the following decades, up to his death in January 1951, he worked in the banking business.
