Henry Vollmer

Henry Vollmer (born July 28, 1867 in Davenport , Iowa , † August 25, 1930 in Piedmont , California ) was an American politician . Between 1914 and 1915 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Vollmer attended public schools in his home country. He then traveled to the federal capital Washington , where he was employed in the years 1887 and 1888 by the congress administration as a mail carrier ( distribution clerk ). After studying law at the University of Iowa and Georgetown University and his admission as a lawyer in 1889, he began to work in Davenport in his new profession. Politically, Vollmer was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1889 he became a councilor in Davenport. He was also mayor of this city between 1893 and 1897. He also sat there from 1898 to 1901 on the education committee. Vollmer also worked as a corporation counsel in 1913 and 1914 .

After the death of Congressman Irvin S. Pepper Vollmer was elected in the second constituency of Iowa as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington. There he took up his new mandate on February 10, 1914. By March 3, 1915, he ended the legislative period started by his predecessor. After his time in Congress , Vollmer returned to work as a lawyer. Politically, he no longer appeared. He died in Piedmont in August 1930.
