James Patton Flick

James Patton Flick (born August 28, 1845 in Bakerstown , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania , † February 25, 1929 in Bedford , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1852, James Flick came to Wapello County , Iowa, with his parents . In 1857 the family moved to Taylor County . Flick attended the public schools in his new home. Between April 1862 and September 1864 he took part in the Civil War as a soldier in an infantry unit from Iowa . From 1869 to 1870 Flick was a record clerk in the administration of Taylor County. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1870, he began to practice in Bedford in his new profession.

Flick was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives from Iowa in 1878 and 1879 . From 1880 to 1886 he was a district attorney for the Iowa Third Judicial District. In 1888 Flick was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Iowa , where he succeeded Albert R. Anderson on March 4, 1889 . After a re-election in 1890, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1893.

In 1892, James Flick declined to run again. He resumed his old work as a lawyer in Bedford. Politically, he has not sought another mandate. Flick died on February 25, 1929 in Bedford and was buried there.
