William Darius Jamieson
William Darius Jamieson (born November 9, 1873 in Wapello , Louisa County , Iowa , † November 18, 1949 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1911 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .
Career
William Jamieson attended the public schools in his home country and then attended the University of Iowa in Iowa City . He later studied law at the National University in the federal capital Washington. Between 1893 and 1916 he published newspapers in several cities.
Politically, Jamieson was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1907 and 1909 he was a member of the Iowa Senate . In 1908 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the eighth constituency of Iowa, where he succeeded William Peters Hepburn on March 4, 1909 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1910, he completed only one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1911 .
After serving in the US House of Representatives, Jamieson settled in Shenandoah, Iowa, where he returned to the newspaper business. In 1915 and 1916 he was also a postman there. Between 1916 and 1920 he was a member of the Democratic National Committee as treasurer . In 1920 he took part as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco , where James M. Cox was nominated as a presidential candidate. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer in Washington, where he also published the weekly "Window Seat". William Jamieson died in Washington on November 18, 1949.
