Elbert Hamilton Hubbard (born August 19, 1849 in Rushville , Rush County , Indiana , †  June 4, 1912 in Sioux City , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1905 and 1912 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Elbert Hubbard was a son of Asahel W. Hubbard (1819-1879), who also represented the State of Iowa in Congress between 1863 and 1869 . The younger Hubbard attended public schools in his home country and at times also enjoyed private education. Until 1872 he was at Yale College . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1874, he began to practice in Sioux City in his new profession.

Politically, Hubbard was a member of the Republican Party . In 1882 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives ; from 1900 to 1902 he was a member of the State Senate . In the congressional election of 1904 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eleventh constituency of Iowa . There he took over from Lot Thomas on March 4, 1905 . After three re-elections, he could remain in Congress until his death on June 4, 1912. The day before he died, he had again prevailed in the Republican primary for the next congressional election in November 1912.
