Daniel Webster Hamilton (born December 20, 1861 in Dixon , Illinois , †  August 21, 1936 in Rochester , Minnesota ) was an American politician . Between 1907 and 1909 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1868 Daniel Hamilton moved with his parents to Miami County , Kansas . In 1874 the family moved to Keokuk County , Iowa. Hamilton attended public schools there. After a subsequent law degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his admission to the bar in 1884, he began to practice in Sigourney in his new profession. Between 1894 and 1898 he was also a postman in this city.

Hamilton was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1906 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Iowa . On March 4, 1907, he succeeded the Republican John F. Lacey , whom he had defeated in the election. In the legislative term that followed, Hamilton was the only Democrat from the state of Iowa. In the elections of 1908 he was defeated by the Republican Nathan E. Kendall . So he had to leave the US House of Representatives on March 3, 1909.

After his tenure in Congress, Hamilton returned to work as a lawyer in Sigourney and later in Grinnell . From 1918 until his death in 1936 he was a judge in the sixth judicial district of his state. Daniel Hamilton died on August 21, 1936 in Rochester, Minnesota and was buried near Thornburg .
