Lester J. Dickinson

Lester Jesse Dickinson (born October 29, 1873 in Derby , Iowa , † June 4, 1968 in Des Moines , Iowa) was an American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of Iowa in the US Senate and is the cousin of Fred Dickinson Letts .

Professional career

Dickinson attended public schools and then studied law at Cornell College at Mount Vernon and received his PhD from the University of Iowa in 1899 . He was admitted to the bar in the same year and began to work in Algona . A short time later he was appointed town clerk of Algona (1900-1904) and served from 1909 to 1913 as a prosecutor for Kossuth County .

He was a lieutenant in the Iowa National Guard's 52nd Infantry from 1900 to 1902 .

Political career

As a member of the Republican Party , he was elected to the House of Representatives of the 66th Congress on March 4, 1919 and remained there for five further congresses until March 3, 1931. In 1930 he was no longer available for re-election because he was elected to the Senate . He represented his state there from March 4, 1931 to January 3, 1937. Neither in the elections in 1936 nor in 1938 he was re-elected. After his tenure he resumed his work in Des Moines, where he also died.

He was buried in the Algona Cemetery .
