Roger William Jepsen

Roger William Jepsen (born December 23, 1928 in Cedar Falls , Black Hawk County , Iowa ) is a former American politician ( Republican Party ). He represented the state of Iowa in the US Senate .

Life

Roger Jepsen, son of Emil Jepsen and Esther Sorensen, graduated in 1953 as Master at the Arizona State University in Tempe . He has been married to Dee Ann Jepsen (nee Delaney) since 1958 and has six children. He served in the army from 1946 to 1947. From 1948 to 1960 he was in the reserve.

He was a manager at Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. in Davenport . He gained his business knowledge from 1973 as President of the HEP Marketing Co. of Davenport and as Vice President of the Agridustrial Electronics Co. of Davenport . From 1962 to 1965 he was a supervisor of Scott County , from 1966 to 1968 he was a member of the Iowa Senate . Between 1968 and 1972 he served as lieutenant governor of the state under Governor Robert D. Ray . In 1978 he surprisingly won the election to the US Senator for Iowa with 51.1 percent of the vote against the Democratic incumbent Dick Clark . During his senate tenure from 1979 to 1984, he was a member of the Agriculture Committee, Defense Committee and Economic Committee.

In April 1985, he was selected by President Ronald Reagan as Chairman of the Financial Market Authority National Credit Union Administration Board appointed. He held the post until 1993.

He now lives with his family in Alexandria ( Virginia ).
