John Herriott

John Herriott (born October 20, 1844 in Herriottsville , Allegheny County , Pennsylvania , †  September 24, 1918 in Des Moines , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1902 and 1907 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa.

Career

John Herriott grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania and attended public schools in his homeland. During the civil war he served in the Union army until September 1864 . In August 1865, he moved to a farm in Scott County , Iowa; In 1872 he moved to the town of Stuart , where he ran a pharmacy and bookstore.

Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1878 and 1882 he was district treasurer in Guthrie County ; from 1894 to 1900 he was the State Treasurer of Iowa . In 1901, Herriott was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, alongside Albert B. Cummins . He held this office between 1902 and 1907. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he no longer appeared politically. He died on September 24, 1918 in Des Moines and was buried in Stuart.
