Kim Reynolds (* 4. August 1959 in Truro , Madison County , Iowa as Kimberly Kay Strawn ) is an American politician . She has been the governor of the state of Iowa since May 24, 2017 . She is the first woman to hold this office.

Career

Kim Reynolds attended the Business Administration and Marketing School at Northwest Missouri State University and Southwestern Community College . She worked as a pharmacist and then embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . For four terms she held the office of treasurer in Clarke County . She was a member of the Department of Motor Vehicles and served on the board of directors of her state's pension system from 1996 to 2001. She served in the Iowa Senate from 2008 to 2010 . There she was a member of five committees and one subcommittee.

2010 Reynolds was on the side of Terry Branstad for Lieutenant Governor elected by Iowa. She took up this position in 2011. She was the governor's deputy. In 2012 she held the office of Secretary at the Republican National Convention . In 2014, both the governor and his deputy were re-elected. She rose to the post of governor on May 24, 2017 after Terry Branstad was named United States Ambassador to the People's Republic of China by President Donald Trump .

She has been married to Kevin Reynolds since 1982, with whom she has three children.
