John R. Needham

John R. Needham (born December 18, 1824 in Washington Court House , Fayette County , Ohio , †  July 9, 1868 ) was an American politician . Between 1862 and 1864 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa .

Career

After studying law and admission to the bar, John Needham began working in Ohio. He later moved to Mahaska County , Iowa, where he edited The Oskaloosa Herald newspaper . Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He also became a member of the Iowa Senate .

In 1862 Needham was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa alongside Samuel Jordan Kirkwood . He held this office between 1862 and 1864. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. He was then re-elected to the local Senate. He held this mandate until his death on July 9, 1868.
