Sally Pederson (born January 13, 1951 in Vinton , Benton County , Iowa ) is an American Democratic politician and was the 45th lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa from 1999 to 2007 .

After graduating from the University of Iowa , she worked for the Meredith Corporation in Des Moines . She also served as the editor for Better Homes and Gardens .

In the 1998 election campaign for governor of Iowa, she supported Tom Vilsack as a "running mate" and became vice governor after his election victory. After the re-election of Tom Vilsack in 2002, she was again lieutenant governor. Pederson held this office for two terms from 1999 to 2007. Her party colleague Patty Judge was her successor in office .

Pederson lives in Vinton.
