Warren Garst

Warren Garst (born December 4, 1850 in Dayton , Ohio , †  October 5, 1924 ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) and from 1908 to 1909 the 19th  governor of the state of Iowa .

Early years

At the age of eight, Warren Garst moved to Illinois with his parents . From there he moved to Coon Rapids , Iowa, around 1869 , where he ran a general store with his brother. Garst was a co-founder of the Iowa Savings Bank in Coon Rapids.

Political career

Garst served six terms in the Iowa Senate before he was elected lieutenant governor of his state in 1906 . He held this office from 1907 to 1908. When Governor Albert B. Cummins resigned from his post on November 24, 1908 to move to the US Senate , Garst had to end his remaining term as governor. In this case that was only a few weeks until January 14, 1909. During this time he continued the policy of his predecessor. An attempt to be elected to the office of governor himself narrowly failed.

Another résumé

After the end of his governorship, Garst was appointed industrial representative of his state in 1913. Then he withdrew from politics. He died on October 5, 1924 and was buried in Des Moines . Warren Garst was married twice and had three children in total.
