James C. Milliman

James Cutler Milliman (born January 28, 1847 in Saratoga County , New York , †  January 21, 1933 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American politician . Between 1898 and 1902 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa .

Career

James Milliman grew up in a poor environment. He earned his living doing temporary work. Since 1856 he lived in Iowa in the Missouri River valley . During the civil war he served in the Union army until 1864 . Then he was wounded and could no longer be used for military service. He later became a member of the Grand Army of the Republic Veterans Association . In the years 1893 and 1894 he was their deputy head ( Senior Vice-Commander ) in Iowa. After the Civil War, he graduated from Iowa State University . For eight years he was employed by the Harrison County government as a recorder . In 1876 he was one of the founders of Harrison County Bank . His main occupation was in the credit and real estate business.

Politically, Milliman joined the Republican Party . In 1894 he became a member of the Iowa House of Representatives . In 1896 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa, alongside LM Shaw . He held this office after a re-election between 1898 and 1902. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Milliman also served on the Iowa State Commission for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition . He later became mayor of Logan City . He died in Santa Monica on January 21, 1933 and was buried in Logan.
