WL Mooty

William L. "WL" Mooty (born June 16, 1906 in Grundy County , Iowa , †  May 23, 1992 ) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1965 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa.

Career

After graduating from the University of Iowa with a law degree and admission to the bar, W. L. Mooty began working in the profession. He also worked as a farmer in agriculture. During the Second World War he served in the Army Air Force . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . He became a member of the Grundy Center parish council . In 1957 and 1958 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives , of which he was president.

In 1960, Mooty was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa alongside Norman A. Erbe . He held this office between 1961 and 1965. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Since 1963 he served under the new governor Harold Hughes . After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he no longer appeared politically. He died on May 23, 1992.
