Kenneth A. Evans
Kenneth A. Evans (born November 9, 1898 in Emerson , Mills County , Iowa , † December 11, 1970 in Red Oak , Iowa) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1951 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa.
Career
Kenneth Evans attended the common schools, the St. James School in Faribault ( Minnesota ) and the Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania . He also studied at the University of Illinois . He later worked on farms and farm management in Iowa and Nebraska . He was also a director of a life insurance company. During the First World War he served in the American armed forces. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was their district chairman in Montgomery County for two years . He served on the Emerson Parish Council for over ten years. He served in the Iowa Senate between 1937 and 1944 .
In 1944 Evans was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa alongside Robert D. Blue . He held this office between 1945 and 1951. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. From 1949 he served under the new Governor William S. Beardsley . He died on December 11, 1970 in Red Oak and was buried in Emerson.
