Oran Faville

Oran Faville (born October 13, 1817 in Manheim , New York , †  November 2, 1872 in Waverly , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1858 and 1860 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa.

Career

Oran Faville graduated from Wesleyan University in Connecticut . He then worked as a teacher in New York and Vermont . He later became a professor at McKendree University in Illinois and then from 1853 to 1855 director of Ohio Wesleyan Female College . He then moved to Mitchell County , Iowa, where he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party .

In 1858, Faville was elected Iowa's first lieutenant governor alongside Ralph P. Lowe . He held this office between 1858 and 1860. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate . Between 1864 and 1867 he was the state's Secretary of Education as the Iowa Superintendent of Public Instruction . He died in Waverly on November 2, 1872.
