Matt Parrott

Mathies "Matt" Parrott (born May 11, 1837 in Schoharie County , New York , †  April 21, 1900 in Battle Creek , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1896 and 1898 he was lieutenant governor of the state of Iowa .

Career

Matt Parrott attended public schools in his home country. Then he started working in the newspaper industry. Together with a partner, he acquired the Iowa State Reporter newspaper in Waterloo in February 1869 . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He became a member of the Waterloo parish council. Between 1877 and 1881 he was mayor of this city. In 1885 he was elected to the State Senate.

In 1895 Parrott was elected Lieutenant Governor of Iowa alongside Francis M. Drake . He held this office between 1896 and 1897. He was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate. In 1897 he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Iowa. He died in Battle Creek on April 21, 1900 and was buried in Waterloo. He had three sons with his wife Francis.
