Schoharie County is a county in the state of New York in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 31,582 people and a population density of 20 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Schoharie . The place used to be called "Brunnendorf".

history

Schoharie County was established on April 6, 1795. The name is derived from the Mohawk language and means "driftwood".
