Sullivan County is a county in the state of New York in the United States . At the 2000 census , the county had 73,966 people and a population density of 29 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Monticello .
history
The county is named after the Revolutionary War general John Sullivan .
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Delaware and Hudson Canal . A total of 71 structures and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 21, 2018).
