South Fallsburg is in the heart of the Borscht Belt in the Catskill Mountains . In the heyday of the place as a resort there were numerous summer hotels, bungalow colonies and guest houses in the place. The Rivoli Theater was created during this time.
The Raleigh Hotel, for a long time South Fallsburg's largest employer, closed in April 2006.
