history

The county was founded on March 11, 1808 as a spin-off from Genesee County . It initially included the area of ​​today's Erie County when it was founded, but this was separated on April 2, 1821.

Three locations have National Historic Landmark status , the Adams Power Plant Transformer House , Fort Niagara, and the Niagara Reservation . 76 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 19, 2018).
