Lewiston is a city in western Niagara County , New York in the United States . In 2010 the city had 16,262 inhabitants. Lewiston is named after Morgan Lewis , who was Governor of New York State from 1804 to 1807 .
The place is on the east bank of the Niagara River and thus on the border with Canada . To the south is the city of Niagara Falls . Niagara University is located in Lewiston .
Lewiston is the location of the Robert Moses Niagara power plant - a run-of-river power plant that uses the hydropower at Niagara Falls and has an output of 2.5 GW.
