Michael Thomas "Mike" Blouin (born November 7, 1945 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American politician . Between 1975 and 1979 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Mike Blouin attended public schools in Miami Shores, Florida and Chicago . He then studied political science until 1966 at Loras College in Dubuque (Iowa). He then worked in Dubuque as a primary school teacher. He later worked as an advertising consultant. Blouin became a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1969 and 1973 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives ; from 1973 to 1974 he was a member of the State Senate . Between 1966 and 1973 he was a delegate to regional Democratic conventions in Iowa.

In 1974 Blouin was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Iowa , where he succeeded John Culver, who moved to the Senate , on January 3, 1975 . After re-election in 1976, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1979 . In the 1978 elections he was defeated by Republican Tom Tauke .

From 1980 to 1981 he worked for the Community Services Administration . Between 1981 and 1987 he was the director of a foundation in aid of the Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids . From 1987 to 1991 Blouin was Director of Economic Development at Cedar Rapids' Chamber of Commerce, which he headed from 1993 to 1999. From 2003 he headed the Department of Economic Development for the State of Iowa. In 2006 he ran unsuccessfully for his party's nomination for the gubernatorial election , which went to Chet Culver .
