Benjamin Todd Frederick (born October 5, 1834 in Fredericktown , Columbiana County , Ohio , † November 3, 1903 in San Diego , California ) was an American politician . Between 1885 and 1887 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Benjamin Frederick attended public schools in his homeland. In 1857 he went to Marysville looking for gold. In 1859 he moved to Marshalltown , Iowa. There he worked in mechanical engineering and the steel foundry between 1865 and 1888. In his new home he was a member of the local council between 1874 and 1877 and was appointed three times to the education committee of this community.

Politically, Frederick was a member of the Democratic Party . In the congressional elections of 1882 he was narrowly defeated by Republican James Wilson . Frederick appealed against the election result. However, for political reasons this was postponed so long that a decision in favor of Frederick was only made on the last day of the legislative period of the Congress elected in 1882 , on March 3, 1885. He could then spend the last hours of this legislative period as a member of the House of Representatives. But since he was regularly elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the congressional elections of 1884 in the fifth constituency of Iowa , he was able to complete a full term in Congress between March 4, 1885 and March 3, 1887. In 1886 he declined to run again.

After serving in the House of Representatives, Benjamin Frederick moved to San Diego, California in 1887. There he worked in the real estate business. Between 1893 and 1902 he also worked for the local tax authorities. He died on November 3, 1903 in his new hometown of San Diego.
