Henry Otis Pratt (born February 11, 1838 in Foxcroft , Piscataquis County , Maine , †  May 22, 1931 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1873 and 1877 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Pratt attended public schools in his home country including Foxcroft Academy . After studying law at Harvard University , he was admitted to the bar in 1862. In 1862 he moved to Charles City , Iowa, where he worked as a teacher. In 1862 and 1863 he served as a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War . From 1864 Pratt practiced as a lawyer in Charles City. He was also a school councilor in Floyd County in 1868 and 1869 .

Henry Pratt was a member of the Republican Party . From 1870 to 1872 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives . In the congressional election of 1872 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Iowa , where he succeeded Madison Miner Walden on March 4, 1873 . After a re-election in 1874, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1877 . In 1876, he decided not to run again. In 1877, Pratt was president of the Iowa regional Republican party convention.

Henry Pratt then studied theology. He was ordained a clergyman in the Methodist Episcopal Church in October 1877 . He held this office until 1918. After that, he retired. He died in May 1931 at the age of 93.
