John NW Rumple

John Nicholas William Rumple (born March 4, 1841 in Fostoria , Ohio , † January 31, 1903 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1901 and 1903 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Rumple attended his home public schools and Western College in Iowa. He then studied at Iowa State University . During the Civil War he served in a cavalry unit from Iowa, where he rose to captain. After studying law and his admission as a lawyer in 1867, he began to practice in his new profession in Marengo .

Rumple was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1873 and 1878 he was a member of the Iowa Senate . From 1880 to 1886 he served on the board of directors of the State University of Iowa . He was also a curator of the Historical Society of Iowa from 1881 to 1885 . Rumple was a member of the Marengo parish council. In the years 1885 and 1886 he was mayor of this municipality. From 1896 to 1900 he was the legal representative of the municipal council and a member of the school council.

In the 1900 congressional elections, Rumple was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Iowa . There he took over from Joseph R. Lane on March 4, 1901 . During his time in Congress, Rumple contracted a tumor in the neck. This illness was also the reason for his renouncement of a further candidacy in the year 1902. In these elections the Democrat Martin Joseph Wade was elected as his successor. Rumple could no longer end his legislative period, which actually ended on March 3, 1903. He died on January 31, 1903 in a Chicago hospital. His seat of parliament remained vacant until Wade took office on March 4, 1903.
