T. Cooper Evans (1981)

Thomas Cooper Evans (born May 26, 1924 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa , †  December 22, 2005 in Grundy Center , Iowa) was an American politician . Between 1981 and 1987 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

T. Cooper Evans attended Grundy Center High School through 1942 and then served as an infantryman in the US Army between 1943 and 1946 during World War II . After the war, he continued his education first until 1948 at the University of St Andrews in Scotland and then until 1955 at Iowa State College in Ames . He later studied at the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology in Oak Ridge ( Tennessee ). During these courses he was from 1949 to 1965 as a lieutenant colonel member of the Corps of Engineers , the pioneer unit of the US Army. After that Evans worked as an engineer and farmer. From 1965 to 1980 he was President of Evans Farms Inc.

Evans was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1968 and 1974 he was a member of the Grundy County property tax committee ; from 1975 to 1979 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives . He was also a delegate to regional Republican conventions in Iowa between 1966 and 1978. In 1980 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Iowa . There he succeeded Chuck Grassley , who had been elected to the US Senate , on January 3, 1981 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1987 . In 1986 he decided not to run again.

After the end of his last term in the House of Representatives, Cooper Evans withdrew from politics. He died on December 22, 2005 in Grundy Center and was buried there.
