Smith McPherson

Smith McPherson (born February 14, 1848 in Mooresville , Indiana , †  January 17, 1915 in Red Oak , Iowa ) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1899 and 1900 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Smith McPherson attended public schools in his home country including the Mooresville Academy . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and his admission as a lawyer in 1870, he began to practice in Red Oak in his new profession. In 1872 he became a prosecutor. From 1881 to 1885 McPherson held the office of Attorney General of his state. Then he worked again as a lawyer.

Politically, McPherson was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1898 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Iowa . There he took over from Alva L. Hager on March 4, 1899 . As early as June 1900, McPherson resigned after being appointed judge in the federal district court for the southern district of Iowa. He held this office until his death on January 17, 1915 in Red Oak.
