Tom Tauke

Thomas Joseph "Tom" Tauke (born October 11, 1950 in Dubuque , Iowa ) is an American politician . Between 1979 and 1991 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Tom Tauke attended private schools in Dubuque County and, until 1968, Wahlert High School . He then graduated from Loras College in Dubuque until 1972 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Iowa and his admission to the bar in 1974, he began to practice in his new profession. Politically, Tauke joined the Republican Party . Between 1975 and 1978 he was a member of the Iowa House of Representatives . From 1972 to 1978 he took part in the regional party conventions of the Republicans. In 1976 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City , where US President Gerald Ford was nominated again for this office.

In the congressional elections of 1978 Tauke the second was electoral district of Iowa in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC selected. There he stepped on January 3, 1979 to succeed the Democrat Mike Blouin . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1991 . In 1990 Tauke renounced another candidacy for the House of Representatives. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . After this defeat he withdrew from politics. Since then, Tauke has been working as a lawyer and lobbyist for the telecommunications industry. He lives in Alexandria ( Virginia ).
