The Jakob-Prandtauer-Volks-und-Hauptschule is located in Melk , Lower Austria , at Dr.-Wilhelm-Reich-Straße 7, and was previously a home for the blind.

history

The Elisabethinum home for the blind was built between 1900 and 1901 and was used as a home for blind people until 1938 . In the course of the annexation of Austria to the National Socialist German Reich , it was closed by the National Socialists in 1938 . A primary and secondary school was built on the property from 1959 to 1963 , whereby the structure of the former home for the blind was included and significantly changed.

From 1972 to 1974 and 1996 extensions were made. The school, named after the Austrian baroque master builder Jakob Prandtauer , consists of several three-storey wings with simple facades. The mosaic decoration Donauschifferlied comes from the Viennese painter Rudolf Eisenmenger .
