David Young (politician)
David Young (born May 11, 1968 in Van Meter , Dallas County , Iowa ) is an American politician . Since January 2015 he has represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .
Career
In 1986 David Young graduated from Johnston High School in Johnston . He then studied until 1991 at Drake University in Des Moines . He later worked as a businessman. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . Between 1993 and 1996 he was on the staff of US Senator Hank Brown from Colorado ; from 1998 to 2006 he served on Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky . From 2006 to 2013 he was Chief of Staff of Chuck Grassley , who represented or still represents the state of Iowa in the US Senate.
In the 2014 congressional election , Young was elected to the United States House of Representatives in the third constituency of Iowa, where he succeeded Tom Latham on January 3, 2015 , who did not stand for another candidacy. He prevailed against the Democrat Staci Appel with 53:42 percent of the vote . Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he also served in the 115th Congress of the United States , which will meet on January 3, 2017 . In the 2018 congressional election, he lost to the Democrat Cindy Axne and therefore left the House of Representatives on January 3, 2019.
