George Hanks "Hank" Brown (* 12. February 1940 in Denver , Colorado ) is a former American politician of the Republican Party , of the State of Colorado in both houses of Congress represented.

Hank Brown graduated from college in 1961 and graduated from the University of Colorado Law School at Boulder in 1969 . He also received a Masters in Law from George Washington University . From 1962 to 1966 he served as an officer in the US Navy . He was a fighter pilot and volunteered for work in Vietnam .

His political career began with membership in the Colorado Senate between 1972 and 1976. In 1980 Brown was elected to the US House of Representatives, to which he was a member until 1991, before moving to the Senate within Congress . In the November 1990 election, he won 55.7 percent of the vote against the Democrat Josie Heath. After a term of office, he decided not to run again in 1996.

After serving as President of the University of Northern Colorado between 1998 and 2002, Brown was appointed acting successor to Elizabeth Hoffman as President of the University of Colorado System in April 2005 . The governing body decided in May 2006 to nominate him as permanent president. In January 2007, Brown announced his resignation from the post, which he finally completed on March 10, 2008.
