S. Harrison White

Sebastian Harrison White (born December 24, 1864 in Maries County , Missouri , † December 21, 1945 in Colorado Springs , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1927 and 1929 he represented the first constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harrison White attended the public schools in Dallas County and in Marionville ( Missouri ) and then later Ozark Wesleyan College in Carthage . After several years of teaching, White became director of the Hickory County Teacher's Institute in 1886 ; a year later he became a Hickory County School Councilor.

After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1889, he began his new profession in Pueblo (Colorado). White was a member of the Democratic Party . In 1892 he took part as a delegate at the Democratic Congress in Colorado; he was also party chairman in Pueblo County . Between 1897 and 1899 he was a lawyer for the city of Pueblo, for which he also worked as a trustee from 1900 to 1903 and between 1905 and 1909. Between 1904 and 1908, White was a district attorney in Colorado's 10th Judicial District, and from 1909 to 1919 he served as a judge on that state's Supreme Court. Between 1917 and 1918 he presided over it as Chief Justice . After 1919 he worked again as a lawyer in Denver.

After the death of Congressman William N. Vaile , White was elected in a by-election to succeed him in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he ended the legislative period started by his predecessor between November 15, 1927 and March 3, 1929. In the regular elections of 1928 he was not re-elected. At the end of his brief tenure in Congress, Harrison White retired from politics. He died on December 21, 1945 in a Colorado Springs hospital.
