Scott Steve McInnis (born May 9, 1953 in Glenwood Springs , Colorado ) is an American politician . Between 1993 and 2005 he represented the third constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Scott McInnis attended Glenwood Springs High School and then Mesa College in Grand Junction . Later he continued his training at Fort Lewis College , where he studied law, and the St. Mary's University in San Antonio ( Texas ) continued. He finished his studies there in 1980. In the following years, McInnis worked as a police officer in Glenwood Springs. He was also the head of a hospital and worked as a lawyer.

Politically, McInnis became a member of the Republican Party . From 1983 to 1993 he was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives . In the 1992 congressional elections, he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third district of Colorado . There he stepped on January 3, 1993 to succeed the Democrat Ben Nighthorse Campbell . After five re-elections, he was able to complete a total of six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 2005 . There he was temporarily a member of the Committee on Ways and Means . In 2004 he decided not to run again.

Today Scott McInnis works as a partner in the law firm Hogan & Hartson . He was considered the most promising Republican candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial elections in Colorado in 2010 until he lost in the primaries on August 10 with 49.3% to 50.6% against the political career changer Dan Maes .
