Robert Warren "Bob" Schaffer (* 24. July 1962 in Cincinnati , Ohio ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . He was a member of the House of Representatives for the 4th constituency of Colorado from 1997 to 2003 . He was previously a member of the Colorado Senate from 1987 to 1996 .

In 1984 Bob Schaffer graduated from the University of Dayton in Ohio with a degree in political science . He lives in Fort Collins , Colorado with his wife Maureen . The Schaffers are Roman Catholic and have five children.

In 2004 he ran for a seat in the US Senate , but failed in the party primaries to Pete Coors , who in turn was defeated by Ken Salazar . In May 2007 he announced that he was running for the US Senate again in 2008. His Democratic opponent was Congressman Mark Udall , who prevailed with 52.8 percent of the vote, replacing Republican Wayne Allard .
