Anton Schwob

Anton Schwob (born August 29, 1937 in Apatin , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ) is an Austrian Germanist and professor emeritus at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz for older German language and literature.

Life

After traumatic childhood experiences in the Gakovo camp near Sombor , he and his mother managed to escape to Austria in 1947. He attended secondary school and federal teacher training institute in Salzburg.

From 1957 he studied German, history , art history and philosophy at the Universities of Marburg an der Lahn , Munich and Innsbruck , where he became a member of the K.Ö.HV Leopoldina in 1959 . In Marburg he worked on the German Language Atlas (with Walther Mitzka and Ludwig Erich Schmitt ), recording and recording Southeast German dialects in 1963 and 1964. In 1967 he received his doctorate from Johannes Erben in Innsbruck. phil. Since 1964 he has been with the historian Ute Monika Schwob , b. Schuller, married with whom he has two children.

From 1968 to 1982 he was an assistant at the Institute for German Studies at the University of Innsbruck , he completed his habilitation in 1979 , and in 1981 he was visiting lecturer at the University of Vienna . From 1982 he held a professorship for Older German Language and Literature at the University of Graz, from 1992 to 1998 and 2002 to 2004 he was a director at the Institute for German Studies there. In 1999 he was dean of the humanities faculty at the University of Graz. After his retirement on October 1, 2005, he moved to Salzburg .
