Wilfried Kürschner

Wilfried Kürschner (born April 8, 1945 in Lichterfeld , Niederlausitz ) is a German linguist and university professor .

Life

After graduating from university in 1965 at the Helmholtz-Gymnasium in Dortmund , Kürschner studied German and English in the teaching course at grammar schools in Tübingen and Newcastle upon Tyne and passed the first state examination in 1970 . In 1973 he received his doctorate in Tübingen with Otmar Werner with the dissertation "On the syntactic description of German nominal compounds ". In 1979/80 he completed his habilitation, again with Otmar Werner, in Freiburg i. Br. With a thesis on negation in German and was appointed private lecturer . From 1980 to 2010 he was Professor (C 4) for general linguistics and German linguistics at the University of Osnabrück , Department / Location Vechta, from 1995 Vechta University , since 2010 Vechta University . In 1982/83, 1994 to 1996 and 1997, Kürschner was dean of the faculty for languages, art, music and humanities, cultural and social sciences, and in 1997/98 he was rector of Vechta University of Applied Sciences. From 2003 to 2009 he was director of the Institute for English and German Studies.

Kürschner became known nationwide with his “Mini Latinum ”, which he developed for German language and literature students because, in his opinion , their knowledge of grammar can be expanded through insights into the grammar of Latin (and Greek).

Kürschner is married and has two children ( Sebastian Kürschner , Katrin Reich née Kürschner). He lives in Vechta .

Focus

Kürschner's focus is on grammar , spec. German orthography , history of linguistics and language and linguistics in public. Since 1995 he has been co-editor of the research edition of the works of Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm ; he was responsible for editing the Grimm parts of the German dictionary (Vol. 40, 41, 42.1, 42.2). At the University of Vechta, he was responsible in particular for teacher training and master's degree students specializing in German / German studies . In addition, from 1994 to 2010 he was the examinations officer for teacher training courses . Kürschner also gained importance as the editor of the Linguist Handbook .
