Scott Randall Tipton (born November 9, 1956 in Española , New Mexico ) is an American politician . Since 2011 he has represented the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Scott Tipton attended Cortez High School and then until 1978 Fort Lewis College in Durango . Then he ran a pottery company with his brother. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In August 1976 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City , where President Gerald Ford was nominated for re-election. In 1980 and 1984 he supported the election campaigns of Ronald Reagan . He later got involved in George W. Bush's election campaign . In 2006 he ran unsuccessfully for the US House of Representatives. He was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 2008 to 2010 .

In the 2010 congressional election , Tipton was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Colorado , where he succeeded the previously defeated Democrat John Salazar on January 3, 2011 . He is a member of the Agriculture Committee , the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Small Business and a total of five sub-committees. During his tenure so far, he has faced several allegations against ethics. Among other things, it was about the misuse of taxpayers' money for the election campaign or for donations to his nephew's company. Tipton is married and has two daughters.

In the 2012 congressional elections , he prevailed against the Democrat Sal Pace with 53:41 percent of the vote . After two further re-elections in 2014 and 2016, he is expected to remain in Congress until January 3, 2019. He has the option of a further candidacy.
