James Douglas "Mike" McKevitt (born October 26, 1928 in Spokane , Washington , † September 28, 2000 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician . Between 1971 and 1973 he represented the first constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After primary school visited Mike McKevitt the Grant High School in Sacramento ( California ) and the University of Idaho . After studying law at the University of Denver , he was admitted to the bar in 1956. His training was interrupted by his military service in the US Air Force , in which he served between 1951 and 1953 during the Korean War.

After his admission as a lawyer, he initially worked in this profession. Between 1958 and 1967 he worked for the Attorney General of Colorado; from 1967 to 1971 he was a prosecutor in Denver . Politically, McKevitt joined the Republican Party . In 1970 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington DC in the first district of Colorado, where he replaced the Democrat Byron G. Rogers on January 3, 1971 . But since he was not re-elected two years later, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1973 .

After his tenure in Congress, he worked as a division head in the US Department of Justice in 1973 . He then worked as an advisor to the President's Energy Policy Commission. From 1987 to 1995 he was a member of a commission that dealt with the commemoration of the Korean War ( Korean War Memorial Commission ). After that, McKevitt worked as a lawyer again.
