Betsy Markey

Elizabeth Helen "Betsy" Markey (born April 27, 1956 in Cresskill , New Jersey ) is an American politician ( Democratic Party ) from the US state Colorado . From 2009 to 2011 she was a member of the US House of Representatives , where she represented the fourth congressional constituency of Colorado.

In the 2008 congressional elections , she won against the Republicans' long-time incumbent Marilyn Musgrave . Markey got 56.2 percent of the vote, Musgrave got 43.8 percent.

In the 2010 congressional elections , she lost her mandate to Cory Gardner .

Before her election, Betsy Markey worked on the staff of US Senator Ken Salazar , who later became US Secretary of the Interior . She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and a Masters of Public Administration from American University in Washington .

Markey is married and has three children with her husband Jim.
